Code of Conduct for Gymnasts
- Gymnasts must co-operate fully, respect all requests and decisions made by the coaches, helpers, officials and administrators. Failure of this could lead to suspension/ expulsion.
- All gymnasts must respect the rights, dignity and worth of all gymnasts regardless of gender, ability, cultural background or religion.
- Members should keep to agreed timings for training and competitions or inform their coach if they are going to be late or cannot attend.
- Members must wear suitable kit – leotard, shorts, Leggings, T-shirt at training sessions and must wear Club uniform at competitions e.g., Club leotard & Tracksuit if applicable.
- Long hair must be tied back; gymnasts must remove all jewelery including body piercings.
- Socks are not permitted during training unless requested by the coach.
- Members must pay any fees for training or events promptly.
- Members must not smoke, drink or take drugs of any kind whilst representing the club at competitions or other events.
- A high standard of behaviour is expected from gymnasts at all times including competitions and club trips.
- Members should treat all equipment with respect.
- Members should treat the training facilities and surroundings with respect
- Members must inform the coach in charge of any injuries or illness they may have before the warm-up begins or at the onset if it occurs during the session.
- Always ask a coach if you need to leave the class for any reason.
- No mobile phones are allowed to be used during training sessions unless agreed by the Head Coach.
- Members must not use bad language. Anyone doing so will be asked to leave the session immediately.
- Members must remain within the training hall at all times unless given permission to leave by the coach in charge.
- If a member feels they are being unfairly treated or having difficulties with a particular task during a session they should approach their coach or another club official at an appropriate time and in an appropriate manner.
- Gymnasts are asked to pay attention to their own personal hygiene, ensuring both they are and their leotards are clean. The use of deodorant is encouraged.
- Gymnasts may be suspended from training or permanently expelled should it be known that they bully any other member.
- Gymnasts requiring the use of an inhaler must have it clearly marked with their name on it and kept with the gymnast at all times.
- Clyde Valley Gymnastics cannot be held responsible for lost or stolen items. It is advisable for items of clothing to be labelled with the Gymnasts name.
- Accept success and failure in a noble selfless way.
Failure to comply with the code of conduct could result in parent/guardian and gymnast being removed from the club.
Parent/guardian code of conduct
Your rights that we will champion are:
- Be able to ask questions, be listened to and respected
- Be supported if reporting suspected abuse or poor practice.
- Know that reporting a concern will not affect you or your childs place in the club
- Be protected from abuse from spectators, other adults, coaches, parents, Gymnasts.
- Be informed about problems or concerns about your child.
- Be informed if your child is injured or unwell.
Clyde Valley rules for parents/guardians:
- Always treat others with respect and care for their safety, well being, and protection. This means not taking part in, or allowing any actions that harm others in any way, such as physical harm, emotional harm, neglect, extortion, bullying or sexual misconduct.
- Do not allow allegations of poor practice, abuse, well being concerns to go unchallenged, unrecorded or fail to act upon them- See something, Say something.
- Ensure gymnasts are picked up on time. Parents/guardians must notify coaches if their child is to be picked up by someone other than the usual person.
- Gymnasts are the responsibility of their parents/guardians until handed over to the coach for their session. Please ensure gymnasts enter the club before leaving.
- Always come into the reception area to collect your child promptly at the end of each session. Children will be handed back by a coach at the end of the session. If you want your child to make their own way home, they must be at least 16 years old or you must give written consent via email to allow your gymnast to go on their own . In no circumstances will a child be allowed to leave alone without consent.
- In the event of a parent/ guardian being unduly late the club will make contact with the gymnasts first contact after 15 minutes if there is no answer we will try the gymnasts second contact, if we are unable to reach anyone by phone call the Club will then, in accordance with the SGA escalation process, contact the local Police for further assistance.
- The Club will not tolerate rudeness or aggressive/ rowdy behaviour towards gymnasts, coaches, Club officials, or other parents. If this were to continue you would be asked to leave the building and your gymnasts training would be terminated.
- Always encourage your Child to learn the rules and participate within them.
- Always respect the coaches’ opinion. He or She has a great knowledge and experience within the sport.
- Always support your child’s involvement and help them enjoy their sport.
- Always ensure your child is dressed appropriately for the activity (tight clothing/leotard) and has plenty to drink.
- Share any concerns or complaints about any aspect of the club through the club email including any welfare issues on clydevalleygc@gmail.com – If the complaint is regarding a coach and you wish to speak with someone out with the coaching team, please contact our safeguarding officer on cvg.safeguarding@gmail.com.
- Should you have an important need to talk to your child’s coach prior to their lesson, please inform the receptionist who will notify the coach concerned.
- Parents must ensure that all changes in contact details/medical details are brought to the attention of the coach in charge of the class. Updates should be done on parents class 4 kids account.
- Parents must support the gymnasts code of conduct.
- Help your child to recognise good performance, not just results.
- Encourage your child to speak with their coaches and accept responsibility for their own development and behaviour.
- Help them understand the important life lesson to be gained from the sport, such as: leadership, handling adversity, teamwork, persistence and compassion.
- Keep the club informed of any injuries or illness that may affect their safe participation in the session.
- Fees for training or events must be paid promptly. Failure to do so will result in the gymnast being excluded from training.
- Please do not enter the gym unless specifically requested to do so by the coach.
Policy awareness and acceptance
When you sign your gymnast up to Clyde Valley Gymnastics Club you agree that you are aware of and will abide by all policies that are within this document as well as the following policies which can be found on the Scottish Gymnastics Website.

Failure to comply with the code of conduct could result in parent/guardian and gymnast being removed from the club.
Spectator Code of Conduct
- Remember the gymnasts are here to have fun.
- Set a Good Example, Applaud effort and performance of all participants.
- Be a positive role model by promoting fair play, good sportsmanship, and performance over results.
- Publicly accept officials' judgements and do not approach officials to discuss scores.
- Share/raise any concerns or issues through the appropriate channels.
- Lets the coach do their job and do not coach from the sidelines.
- Only approach coaches during the competition in an emergency
- Always use appropriate language and behaviour.
- Remain ourside the field of play during competitions
- Supervise any children you are responsible for, whether they are gymnasts or not, outside of the competition area and ensure they do not disrupt the ongoing competition.
- Respect the rules of the facilities and Clyde Valley Gymnastics club.
- Remove your rubbish from the seating area and use the bins provided.
- Keep noise to a minimum when gymnasts are competitng (unless applauding) and so not use flash photography.
- Smoking, consuming alcohol or any illegal substance is always prohibited while in or around the venue.
- Behave with respect to others including coaches, Venue staff, Officials, Other gymnasts, Parents, team managers and other spectators.
Failure to comply with the code of conduct could result in parent/guardian being removed from the club.
Social Media Policy
(social media example but not limited to – Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, snapchat, messenger, WhatsApp)
All points below must be adhered to, if not this will be a breach of policy and worst case can result in the member being removed from clyde valley gymnastics club.
Children + Young people under the age of 18
Children/young people under the age of 18 must -
- Not befriend any coach/Official/Volunteer on any Social media platform. - If coach accepts this it will be a breach of code of conduct.
- Never send or post anything on any social media platforms which may be hurtful or upsetting to anyone within or out with clyde valley gymnastics club.
- Never post any derogatory or inappropriate remarks, photos or videos on any social media site which may be harmful to yourself or others.
- Never downgrade any other gymnast/coach within clyde valley or any other club on any social media site.
- Never contact personal coaches on any social media sites.
Parents/Guardians
Parents/guardians must -
- Never contact another gymnast on social media unless prior agreement with the specific gymnast's parent/guardian.
- Never downgrade Clyde valley on any social media/public sites - (this includes any Clyde Valley gymnasts/coaches/helpers past or present)
- Never personally contact a coach on any social media platforms, this should always be through the club, so all is documented.
- Never downgrade any other clubs/gymnasts out with Clyde valley.
- Never post anything that can be upsetting or degrading towards any club or individual outside of clyde valley.
- Always ensure that your gymnast knows and follows these rules as best as able.
Coaches/Officials/Volunteers of clyde valley gymnastics
Coaches/officials/volunteers must-
- Never befriend any gymnast- past or present- within clyde valley or out with under the age of 18 years old on any social media/online sites.
- Never personally contact a gymnast/young person under the age of 18 on any social media sites/messaging platforms.
- Always decline any friends request from any gymnast/young person under the age of 18.
- Never downgrade Clyde valley on any social media/public sites - (this includes any Clyde Valley gymnasts/coaches/helpers/parents -past or present)
- Never respond to any messages from parents/Gymnasts on personal social media platforms.
- Never send or post anything on any social media platforms which may be hurtful or upsetting to anyone within or out with clyde valley gymnastics club.
- Never post any derogatory or inappropriate remarks, photos or videos on any social media site which may be harmful to yourself or others.
- Never downgrade any other gymnast/coach within clyde valley or any other club.
Young coaches of clyde valley gymnastics (under 16 years old)
Young coaches must-
- Never befriend any gymnast- past or present- within clyde valley or out with who is not in your group of friends (same age as you)
- Never personally contact a gymnast/young person that you teach or that is not in your friend group
- Always decline any friends request from any gymnast/young person not in your friend group.
- Never downgrade Clyde valley on any social media/public sites - (this includes any Clyde Valley gymnasts/coaches/helpers/parents -past or present)
- Never respond to any messages from parents/Gymnasts on personal social media platforms.
- Never send or post anything on any social media platforms which may be hurtful or upsetting to anyone within or out with clyde valley gymnastics club.
- Never post any derogatory or inappropriate remarks, photos or videos on any social media site which may be harmful to yourself or others.
- Never downgrade any other gymnast/coach within clyde valley or any other club.
